The last supper

A surprise

We found a friend at our last camp site: a young rattle snake.

Montaña de Oro!

Just got to our campsite. Environmental site 2. No campsites within site. We have an outhouse, a table, and a eucalyptus tee pee provided. Pretty sweet!

Lunch stop in Morro Bay

Bobby didn't want to get up in the morning so we took his tent town around him. Now after 25 miles it's time for lunch.

Almost to lunch

17 miles into our ride and we are cruising comfortably at almost 16 mph.

Off to Montaña de Oro

Cambria!

We made quick progress on our 36 mile ride today and rolled in early. We decided to dump our stuff and ride into Cambria 4 miles away. Now eating at a Mexican restaurant in town relaxing. Feels good.

San Simeon

Just got to our campground for the night

Quick Stop to see some elephant seals

After getting out of the mountains we are averaging more than 20 miles an hour and feeling good. Here are some lazy elephant seals a few miles from Cambria

Service!

Stayed at Plaskett Creek campground last night with zero service. Our original plan of Kirk Creek campground didn't work out because there was no space and there was no drinkable water. Now we are on our way to San Simion which is near Cambria.

No service in the campground

But, now that we are 4 miles into the trip to Kirk Creek campground, we can share some pictures of Big Sur

Wow.....

Our journey today was already projected to be 60 miles. But, after 3 flat tires, a bike shop stop, a lot of mexican food, and Monterey costing us an extra 10 miles out trip needed up being a total of 70 miles. That is 40 miles farther than any of us have ridden a bike in our lives. Wow..

Better pictures to come in the morning

Gourmet

Some wonderful ravioli for dinner!

At campsite #2

After biking 16 miles today we finally have arrived at our campsite in Manresa State Park. Our speed was much better today. Our solar charger is working "McGiver" style.

Bobby got a new helmet!

A little relapse

Weather is clearing up. We will bike 15 miles from Santa Cruz to our Manresa state beach campsite. Decided to have one little taste of civilization (Thai Noodles) before our life line (Mom and Hoanh) disappears for the rest of the trip.

Quick! It stopped raining!

We waited for a break in the rain and then packed everything up in an attempt to keep our tents and belongings as dry as possibly. We will start our ride of shame shortly. Bummed that we couldn't do today's ride.

Morning of Day 2

Woke up to rain today, and that is a definite no no when on bikes with cargo as the brakes don't work as well as they should. We may need to get a ride to the next campsite. Luckily sun is in the forecast for the rest of the trip.

From the first camp site

The first leg of the journey is done. We finally rolled into our camp at Half Moon Bay at around nine pm. Large hills and a rather unruly trailer made for lots of pit stops. Highlights would definitely include the 40mph romp down a curving hill and a stroll through a eucalyptus forest.

The start
